A DC–DC multilevel boost converter

Abstract: A DC -DC converter topology is proposed. The DC -DC multilevel boost converter (MBC) is a pulse-width modulation (PWM)-based DC -DC converter, which combines the boost converter and the switched capacitor function to provide different output voltages and a self-balanced voltage using only one driven switch, one inductor, 2N 2 1 diodes and 2N 2 1 capacitors for an Nx MBC. It is proposed to be used as DC link in applications where several controlled voltage levels are required with self-balancing and unidirectio… Show more

“…Thus, there is more and more demand for high step-up DC-DC converters, and lots of research has been carried out on this topic. Many other industrial applications, such as TV-CRTs, X-ray systems, auxiliary power supplies for electrical vehicles, high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps for automobiles, also require dc/dc converters with high step-up voltage conversion ratio [3,4].…”

“…However, the current stress is high and the voltage stress of the diode in the last stage is equal to the high output voltage leading to more losses. In [9][10], switched-capacitor-based boost converters with only one switch are presented. In these converters not only the input current is continuous, but also the switch voltage stress is significantly reduced and the gain is increased.…”

“…A DC-DC Boost converter is used for producing high pulsed output voltage [6]. CDVMs are used with boost converter to get a high voltage gain [7]. The CDVMs have small size and weight and high efficiency [8].…”
