A DEMATEL-based completion method for incomplete pairwise comparison matrix in AHP

Abstract: Pairwise comparison matrix as a crucial component of AHP, presents the preference relations among alternatives. However, in many cases, the pairwise comparison matrix is difficult to complete, which obstructs the subsequent operations of the classical AHP. In this paper, based on DEMATEL which has ability to derive the total relation matrix from direct relation matrix, a new completion method for incomplete pairwise comparison matrix is proposed. The proposed method provides a new perspective to estimate the m… Show more

“…Analytic hierarchy process (AHP), introduced by Thomas Satty (1980) [59], is an effective tool for dealing with complex decision making problem [60][61][62][63]. The weight determination process quantifies the subjective assessment of experts, and can check the consistency of decision-makers' evaluation.…”

“…In this section, some preliminaries are briefly introduced. In real applications, how to deal with uncertainty in decision making is still an open issue . Many uncertainty information processing models based on the relative math tools, such as fuzzy sets, D numbers, and evidence theory, are presented and adopted in practical engineering.…”

“…In real applications, how to deal with uncertainty in decision making is still an open issue. [11][12][13][14][15] Many uncertainty information processing models based on the relative math tools, such as fuzzy sets, 16,17 D numbers, [18][19][20] and evidence theory, [21][22][23] are presented and adopted in practical engineering. Among these models, Z numbers is efficient to represent the reliability of uncertain information and can be defined as follows.…”

“…Many math tools, such as AHP [37][38][39][40], fuzzy sets [41][42][43], D numbers [44][45][46][47], evidential reasoning [30,[48][49][50][51], and rough sets [52], are adopted with wide applications. In this section, the main concepts about the Dempster-Shafer (D-S) evidence theory are reviewed.…”
