A dipodal molecular probe for naked eye detection of trivalent cations (Al3+, Fe3+and Cr3+) in aqueous medium and its applications in real sample analysis and molecular logic gates

Abstract: A dipodal reversible colorimetric trivalent metal ion chemosensor (L) has been designed and synthesized. The chemosensor L successfully detects Al3+, Fe3+ and Cr3+ based on binding site-signaling approach and it has practical application.

“…As demonstrated in Figure 5A, only the presence of Fe 3+ led to a strong green emission for BODIPY-PH suggesting its high selectivity toward ferric ions. Al 3+ and Cr 3+ induced a weak green emission due to their trivalent nature which has been observed in previous works [45][46][47][48], while Hg 2+ caused a small fluorescence quenching. The interfering effect of the above-mentioned cations toward Fe 3+ sensing was also investigated.…”

“…The Schiff base turn on Pb 2+ sensors are scarce in the literature. 19,20 In continuation to our on-going reach interest 21,22 herein, we have synthesized a triazole-appended Schiff base chemosensor L, which showed uorescence enhancement upon interaction with both Pb 2+ and Cu 2+ and change in color in CH 3 OH-tris buffer (10 mM, pH 7.2) medium (1 : 1). The selected strategy behind the designing of this chemosensor L is mainly based on three facts.…”

“…Dihydro phenylquinazolinone derivatives are an important class of compounds as inhibitors of cell multiplication and well known as antiarthritic and antispermatogenic drugs. 57,58 Herein, in continuation of our ongoing research on the recognition of different analytes using simple chemosensors, [59][60][61] we report a simple, easy to prepare, and cost effective colourimetric chemo-sensor, 3-[(E)-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino]-1,2-dihydro-2-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one (L), for the sensitive and selective detection of Ni 2+ and Cu 2+ ions and its copper complex for both the colourimetric and uorometric detection of CN À ions. The chemosensor L detected the presence of the cations Ni 2+ and Cu 2+ by both uorescence quenching and an instant change in colour from colourless to yellow, and its Cu 2+ complex detected CN À ions by uorescence enhancement and colour change from yellow to colourless.…”
