A dynamic model of the pollution impact of dioxin/furan on the environment, society and economy

Abstract: Dioxin and furan have both long and short-term adverse effects on living organisms. This research aims at developing a computational model to determine the impact of dioxin/furan pollution on the environment, the society and the economy in order to provide a rational basis for policy development. The approach was to develop and validate a dynamic model of dioxin/furan emissions in Cilegon, West Java, Indonesia. Key components of the model include: (a) estimation of the emission of dioxin/furan discharged from … Show more

“…For example, the calculation of the Gaussian model of iron and non-iron smelting plants in the Cilegon industrial area with an activity of around 2 million tons per year or 6.3 kg/s produces dioxins of 150 000 pg TEQ/m 3 at a distance of 10 km (Warlina et al, 2008). Furthermore, emissions of 96 165 pg TEQ/m 3 will produce an ambient concentration of 0.73 pg TEQ/m 3 (Warlina et al, 2008, Warlina, 2015. This value far exceeds the WHO threshold of 0.11 pg TEQ/m 3 in 1990 and changed to 0.023 pg TEQ/Nm 3 starting in 1999 (Ma et al, 2012).…”
