A fast fabrication of copper nanowire transparent conductive electrodes by using pulsed laser irradiation

Abstract: Copper nanowires have shown promise for use in next-generation conducting materials for transparent electrodes owing to their low sheet resistance, natural abundance, and high transmittance properties. Additionally, copper nanowires can be easily synthesized via low-cost solution-based processes. However, copper requires a uniform film to coat the nanowires on the substrate and removing film former residue in the post-treatment process remains a challenge. This lead to the high cost and complexity of fabricati… Show more

“…52,53 So far, various methods have been used to fabricate these electrodes such as spray coating, 54,55 electrohydrodynamic (EHD) printing of metal grids, 54 and laser irradiation and acid dipping. 56,57 Among them, spray coating is one of the most commonly used methods for the fabrication of transparent electrodes. However, it is difficult to control the transparency, resistance, and uniformity using this method.…”

“…For instance, Lee et al used thermal sintering at 200 °C for 20 min to reduce resistance in a printed AgNW trace from 1000 to 100 Ω/sq [ 118 ] and Li et al photonically welded NWs to reduce sheet resistances from 53 to 7.1 Ω/sq [ 23 ]. An example SEM image of laser-welded AgNWs is provided in Figure 7 c [ 119 ]. Finally, NWs can be welded by NPs embedded in a matrix film.…”

“…(Reske et al, 2014) Typical structures are NPs with average size 20-100 nm, nanorods with 200-300 nm length, ~150 nm width and ~20-40 nm thickness, nanowires with an average diameter of 150 nm and length of 53 ÎŒm or nanospheres, being single crystals of an average size of 23.4±1.5 nm. (Sahai et al, 2016;Zuo et al, 2017;Dang et al, 2017;Tran et al, 2017;Guo et al, 2014) CuNPs have valuable physical properties-good electrical and thermal conductivity, light absorption with an absorption peak at 570-580 nm. They are more reactive compared to other metallic NPs.…”
