A framework for data quality for Mediterranean sustainable ecosystem management

Abstract: -Information requirements for Mediterranean ecosystem management have vastly increased and yet a framework for data quality is not available. This article focuses on data quality issues to enhance Mediterranean natural resources management planning. A framework to achieve high data quality standards is presented. Components of a natural resources data quality framework are identified and characterized. Emphasis is on the design of a data lifecycle within an information system such that data quality categories … Show more

“…A KM focus on descriptive data also calls attention to how accessible the data is, how secure it is, how ethically it is treated (e.g. Thomson and Schmoldt, 2001), how understandable it is within a given context and how well it is presented to enhance its interpretation (Ribeiro et al, 2004). In fact, improving the organization and accessibility of already existing data and information could achieve considerable technology transfer gains.…”

“…A starting point for this is the creation of forest knowledge as well as local and regional information systems in order to easily identify necessities by monitoring and assessing the development of the management. Some authors point out the importance of quality data availability: lack of information in a usable form and efficient transfer of data to appropriate users have been barriers to utilizing the best available knowledge in Mediterranean ecosystem management and to identifying priorities for research (Ribeiro et al, 2004). …”

“…The SADfLOR decision support toolbox [6,[61][62][63][64] was used to automate the process of model building for the analysis of trade-offs between wildfire criteria and the provision of other ecosystem services. The SADfLOR management information module stored both alphanumeric and topological data from ZIF_VS.…”
