A French Translation of the Revised Childhood Anxiety Sensitivity Index (Casi-R): Its Factor Structure, Reliability, and Validity in a Nonclinical Sample of Children Aged 12 and 13 Years Old

Abstract: This study (n = 237 Belgian children; mean age = 12.3 years; SD = 0.41) examined the factor structure, reliability, and validity of the French translation of the Revised Childhood Anxiety Sensitivity Index (CASI-R). We obtained a hierarchical factor structure with four lower-order factors -"fear of cognitive dyscontrol," "fear of publicly observable anxiety reactions," "fear of respiratory symptoms," and "fear of cardiovascular symptoms" -loading on a single higher-order factor ("anxiety sensitivity"). The Fre… Show more

“…Table 4 shows the goodness of fit of the model. Chi-Square divided by the degrees of freedom should ideally be smaller than 2, but smaller than 5 is acceptable [63]. In the current research, Chi-Square is 2.5 times larger than the degrees of freedom.…”

“…The STAIC consists of two 20-item scales using a 3-point response scale: a State scale, which measures transitory anxiety reactions to particular situations, and a Trait scale, which measures a stable predisposition to react anxiously, regardless of the situation. The detailed instructions, normative data, and various reliability and validity parameters (internal consistency and concurrent validity) for this scale are summarized by Spielberger et al (1973) for the English version and by Turgeon and Chartrand (2003) for the French version. In this study, Cronbach's alpha was .77 for the trait scale and .79 for the state scale, indicating acceptable internal consistency.…”

“…In general, the goodness-of-fit measures are adequate. Rules of thumb suggest that for correct models, the value of chi square divided by the model degrees of freedom should be smaller than 2 (Golob, 2001) or at least smaller than 5 (Stassart et al, 2013). Another goodness-of-fit measure is the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), which should preferably be below .05 (Golob, 2001).…”
