A general class of nonparametric control charts

Abstract: In this article, we introduce a new general class of nonparametric Shewhart‐type control charts using the lengths of runs of test sample observations between successive observations of a reference sample. Several control charts that have appeared in the literature are members of the new family. In addition, 3 new nonparametric control charts that belong to the class are introduced and studied. Numerical results depict that the proposed charts attain competitive in‐control and out‐of‐control performance as comp… Show more

“…Following the sense of the sign statistic, Shirke and Barale extended its use with known deciles to increase sensitivity over changes in variance, an approach that could be extended to the monitoring of location and scale. If deciles are unknown, Koutras and Triantafyllou proposed the use of order statistics.…”

“…However, in many applications, the location parameter is unknown and in such cases, different nonparametric statistics are used (see Refs. [32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39] ). An extensive analysis of nonparametric control charts is presented by Chakraborti and Graham 10 and Koutras and Triantafyllou, 40 while an overview up to 2019 is given in Chakraborti and Graham.…”
