A Haptic Instruction Based Assisted Driving System for Training the Reverse Parking

Abstract: In this article, we introduce a novel method of assisted driving system intended to help drivers to improve the reverse parking skill. The system is able to assist the driver by applying the haptic instruction on the steering wheel in order to prompt the driver to make the adequate operation. This is helpful to train the driving technique in an intuitive manner. To determine the assistance means, we conducted the preliminary experiment in order to investigate the quantitative characteristics of human driving. … Show more

“…These specifications relate to all the driver assistance categories [28]: Cognitive assistance to enhance driver perception; mobility assistance, associated with vehicle motion control, and operation assistance to support adequate operation of the driver. The proposed ADAS solution, outlined in Figure 2, involves different technological requirements for each of these categories, as discussed below.…”

“…Mentioned consequences motivated research in the direction of passive control-assistance which can be applied into the Ntrailers with conventional tractors equipped with the manual mechanical steering and acceleration/speed pedal. Examples of the passive parking assistants can be found in [9] for a single-body car and in [2] for a car-single-trailer vehicle.…”
