“…The most frequent bleeding events were obstetrical (43.3%), cutaneous (41.3% of reported cases), intramuscular (36.7%), and haemarthrosis (8%). Unusual sites were also reported, such as macrohaematuria ( n = 9), 23,31 haemothorax ( n = 2), 32,33 haematemesis ( n = 1), 16 prolonged bleeding after a venous or arterial puncture (3) 28,34,35 or dental procedure ( n = 6), 6,23,36 and a haemorrhagic corpus luteum ( n = 1) 37 . In 44 cases (29.3%), more than one type of bleeding occurred simultaneously.…”

“…T h i s interpretation seems to be mistaken, since Hougie (1955) has pointed out that the thromboplastindilution test is abnormal whenever it is performed on a plasma 290 Luis Sdnchez Medal and Rube'n Lisker that has a prolonged plasma-recalcdication time. This view is supported by the finding of abnormal results with this test in the plasma of patients with classic haemophiha (Frommeyer, Epstein and Taylor, 1950; Dreskin and Rosenthal, 1950), thrombocytopenic purpura (authors' unpublished observations), and in the presence of anti-antihaemophdic globulin (AHG) (Frommeyer et al, 1950; Biggs and Macfarlane, 1957) and antithrombins (Lee and Sanders, 1955). Furthermore, the test seems to lack sensitivity, since in several of the patients with circulating anti-AHG (Hougie, 1953) it has been reported as normal, while in others (Frommeyer et al, 1950) it gave abnormal results.…”
