A heuristic path-estimating algorithm for large-scale real-time traffic information calculating

Abstract: As the original Global Position System (GPS) data in Floating Car Data have the accuracy problem, this paper proposes a heuristic path-estimating algorithm for large-scale real-time traffic information calculating. It uses the heuristic search method imports the restriction with geometric operation, and makes comparison between the vectors composed of the vehicular GPS points and the special road network model to search the set of vehicular traveling route candidates. Finally, itchooses the most optimal one ac… Show more

“…Recently, GPS-enabled vehicles have been widely adopted to collect real time traffic data (Dai, Ferman, & Roesser, 2003;Kühne et al, 2003;Lü, Zhu, Wu, Dai, & Huang, 2008;Tong, Coifman, Merr, 2009). In many applications, such data are often obtained from GPS-enabled taxis instead of private automobiles due to privacy concerns.…”

“…and reduces the processing time of calculation and improves the calculation efficiency. The minimum spacing Δd between two successive vehicle positioning points is set according to the Euclidean distance, as shown in (2). For a continuous GPS trajectory, if the time difference larger than Δt, it is determined that the vehicle is turned off, and the vehicle data will be regarded as invalid data and filtered out, as shown in (3).…”

“…GPS taxi data can provide an excellent foundation for revealing urban residents' travel behavior and analyzing spatial-temporal patterns [24,25]. Recently, GPS-enabled vehicles have been widely adopted to collect real time traffic data [26][27][28][29]. In addition to monitoring real-time traffic situations, a large volume of GPS-enabled taxi trajectory data has been used for travel time estimation, dynamic accessibility evaluation, and travel behavior analysis [30][31][32].…”
