A highly efficient isolated single‐phase variable frequency AC–AC converter with flexible buck‐boost factor, inherent safe commutation, and continuous current

Abstract: This paper proposes an isolated single‐phase flexible buck‐boost ac–ac converter with an adjustable output frequency and optimized semiconductors count. One power switch only operates with a high switching frequency in each half‐cycle of the input voltage, and others operate with a low switching frequency equal to the output frequency. Thanks to this feature, the converter provides high efficiency, 95.5% in step‐down mode and 91.5% in step‐up mode. The galvanic isolation between the input and output sides is a… Show more

“…One of the most influential groups of power electronic converters is the AC-AC converters. These converters have predominately extended in industrial applications as dynamic voltage restorers (DVR), 1,2 medium-frequency transformer isolation, [3][4][5] gridconnected wind turbines, induction heating systems, 6,7 and variable frequency drive (VFD). 8 AC-AC power converters are generally classified into three categories.…”

“…AC-AC converters are used in various fields, from domestic to industrial applications. Their basic role is to govern the output rms voltage and frequency per the load requirement or application [1]. These applications may include the correction of grid voltage through the dynamic voltage restorer, variable speed control system, solid-state transformer, and wind power system connected to the grid [2].…”
