“…Shoulder arthroscopy was first described and performed in a diagnostic capacity by the American surgeon Michael S. Burman as early as 1931 during his cadaveric studies. 3 , 4 However, the first clinical use of shoulder arthroscopy in the literature did not appear until 1965 in the setting of treatment for adhesive capsulitis. 5 In the 1980s, James Andrews and Harvard Ellman helped support the widespread use of shoulder arthroscopy as a method for rotator cuff debridement and subacromial decompression in orthopaedic surgery.…”

“… 8 , 9 , 10 Since then, arthroscopic management for a variety of shoulder pathologies has continued to advance and the indications for shoulder arthroscopy have rapidly expanded to include management of shoulder instability, fractures of the humerus and glenoid, rotator cuff repair, and many other soft-tissue pathologies. 3 …”

“…[12][13][14][15][16][17][18] This issue is important from the point of view of patients and healthcare professionals, as prognostic models assume that in the US the number of upper limb operations is expected to increase by 700% over the next ten years. [19] The aim of this study was to check the incidence of PE in patients with fracture of the proximal end of the humerus based on the available literature. The authors decided to look at upper limb injuries and immobilization as potential causes of PE.…”

“…[1][2][3] Indications for shoulder arthroscopy are expanding, with increasing ability of the orthopaedic surgeon to identify lesions and perform more complex arthroscopic procedures. [4][5][6] This article and Video 1 review the setup of the operating room, sterile preparation, and draping for shoulder arthroscopy in the beach chair position. Proper positioning for this procedure will minimize complications and facilitate surgical intervention during the procedure.…”
