A hybrid approach to modeling and optimization for supply chain management with multimodal transport

Abstract: The paper presents the concept and the outline of the implementation of a hybrid approach to supply chain optimization. In this approach, integration of two environments of integer programming (IP) and constrain logic programming (CLP) is proposed. The idea behind the new solution is to use the strengths of both environments, in which optimization constraints are differently treated and different methods are used to solve them. This is particularly important for models in which there is the objective function … Show more

“…constraints. Based on numerous studies and our own experience, the constraint-based environment [14], [15], [16], [17], [29] is believed to offer a very good framework for representing the knowledge, information and methods needed for the decision support and optimization. The central issue for a constraint-based environment is a constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) [14].…”

“…This weakness is more pronounced in multi-objective optimization problems, where a parameterized problem of a single-objective optimization problem has to be solved multiple times depending on the size of Pareto set. Based on [14], [15] and previous work on hybridization [16], [17], [18] some advantages and disadvantages of these environments have been observed. The hybrid approach of constraint logic programming and mathematical programming can help to solve optimization problems that are intractable with either of the two methods alone [19], [20], [21].…”

“…This product portfolio takes into account the constraints (financial, temporal, personal, etc.) and can be determined with the use of the constraint programming [34][35][36][37][38][39]. In the process of choosing the optimal product portfolio, the decision maker can be involved through the weights preferred for the criteria considered.…”

“…In order to obtain an optimal set of admissible variants, integer programming can be used. In the case of extensive search space, the processing time of calculations can be significantly reduced with the use of constraints programming techniques [34][35][36][37][38][39][40].…”
