A LabVIEW Based Data Acquisition System for Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT)

Abstract: A LabVIEW based data acquisition system (LV-DAS) is developed for Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) for automatic current injection and boundary data collection. The developed LV-DAS consists of a NIUSB-6251 DAQ card, NISCB-68 connector module and an automatic electrode switching module (A-ESM). A LabVIEW based graphical user interface (LV-GUI) is develop to control the current injection and data acquisition by LV-DAS through A-ESM. Boundary data are collected for a number of practical phantoms and the bou… Show more

“…To do this, a set of EIT sensors are attached around the surface of the object of study and an electric signal with an alternating current of constant amplitude is applied to the object. An electrical instrument connected to the sensors is used to measure the boundary voltage, which is then processed and output as an intuitive two-dimensional color image [9][10][11][12] .…”

“…In contrast to previous works [10,11] where 4 multiplexers were used, we only used 2 for controlling the current injection pattern, while voltage readings were acquired in differential mode by the DAQ, therefore reducing settling time and electrical noise. The multiplexers are used for limiting current flow to one of their 8 channels; one of the multiplexers was used as a current sink, while the other one as a current source.…”
