A Low-Cost Open Source 3D-Printable Dexterous Anthropomorphic Robotic Hand with a Parallel Spherical Joint Wrist for Sign Languages Reproduction

Abstract: We present a novel open-source 3D-printable dexterous anthropomorphic robotic hand specifically designed to reproduce Sign Languages' hand poses for deaf and deafblind users. We improved the InMoov hand, enhancing dexterity by adding abduction/adduction degrees of freedom of three fingers (thumb, index and middle fingers) and a three-degrees-of-freedom parallel spherical joint wrist. A systematic kinematic analysis is provided. The proposed robotic hand is validated in the framework of the PARLOMA project. PAR… Show more

“…In such a system, the acceleration of the end-effector ranges between (7.2–15) m / s 2 and the velocity ranges between (0.216–0.3) m / s . 7,8 The general scheme of a redundant 2-DOF 3-RRR parallel robot is presented as shown in Figure 2. This parallel robot has three active links ( L a 1 , L a 2 , L a 3 ), three passive links ( L b 1 , L b 2 , L b 3 ), three active joints (A1, A2, A3), and three passive joints ( B 1 , B 2 , …”

“…7 Hand gestures have been investigated as the most natural tools of interaction for human beings, and particularly for disabled persons. 8 Some parallel mechanisms are utilized to mimicking human neck, 9 others are used to improve the imitation skill and children with autism. 10 Other parallel mechanisms are utilized for manufacturing anthropomorphic exoskeletons which matching and mimicking the real motions of some body parts, such as lower and upper limb exoskeletons, to be worn by elderly and disable persons.…”

“…There are many open-source 3D printable models of five-finger prosthetic hand available in the internet. A reliable, anthropomorphic, and low-cost design to be produced is InMoov hand [27]. This model has been adopted in this work since it is based on sharing and enhancing policy.…”
