A new Ce-doped MgAl-LDH@Au nanocatalyst for highly efficient reductive degradation of organic contaminants

Abstract: A new type of convenient, environmentally friendly, and recyclable nanocatalyst (abbreviated as MgAlCe-LDH@Au) was designed and successfully assembled by loading Au nanoparticles (Au NPs; ∼3 nm average diameter) on a MgAlCe-LDH support through an in situ reduction of HAuCl4 by NaBH4.

“…In such a way, a remarkable TOF a value of 2 204 530 h −1 was achieved. To the best of our knowledge, the highest TOF value reported, for 4‐NP reduction, is 1.2 × 10 6 h −1 , still lower than that obtained by us (Table ).…”

“…The applicability of the reaction was investigated using a set of nitroarene derivatives ( Figure S4) having either electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups in different positions with respect to the nitro group (Table 6). To achieve this scope, we chose to run the reactions in the presence of 0.1 mol% of catalyst with 50 mM NaBH 4 to clearly monitor the conversion efficiency of the [30] PMMA 6.9 7.2 × 10 -3 88.6 [31] CNs 10-30 2.1 × 10 −3 109 [27] Chitosan 3.1 1.2 × 10 −2 50.4 [32] AOBC 10.6 4.5 × 10 −3 1198 [26] CSNFs 5 5.9 × 10 −3 563 [33] NCC-G AT 0 3.5 2.8 × 10 −3 608 [34] SBA-15 2.3 1.7 × 10 −2 -a [35] NC 5.7 3.6 × 10 −3 1185 b [24] Glucan 8 1.9 × 10 −3 5922 [36] MgAlCe-LDH 3 4.1× 10 −2 1 200 000 [29] HNTs reaction. It seems clear that the presence of a strong electron-donating substituent at the para position with respect to the reacting nitro group is an important requirement for the reaction to occur (entries 1, 4, 5, 6).…”

“…All catalysts show similar profiles with an increment in the intensity enhanced with the increasing amount of cerium. The Ce 3d spectra can be fitted into four pairs peaks (3d 3/2 & 3d 5/2 ) denoted as u and v , which are the results of the hybridization of the O 2p valance band with the Ce 4 f level and spin‐orbit coupling . Take 0.8Ce‐Bi 2 O 3 sample for example sown in Figure b, six peaks at 882.07( v ), 888.76( v“ ), 898.01( v”′ ), 900.38( u ), 907.28( u“ ), 916.32 eV ( u”′ ) are characteristic of the Ce 4+ states, and v′ (885.63 eV), u′ (903.63 eV) are characteristic of the Ce 3+ states .…”

“…Groundwater contamination due to dyes is still a serious environmental pollution problem, mainly because of the high toxicity and widespread use of dyes. [1][2][3][4] Semiconductor photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater using inexhaustible and environmentally friendly solar energy has attracted much attention. 5,6 TiO 2 is a commercially available semiconductor photocatalyst.…”
