A new cell for temperature-dependent X-ray absorption spectroscopy of liquid solutions: application to PbBr2solutions in diethylene glycol

Abstract: An in situ cell has been constructed for temperature-dependent X-ray absorption experiments (EXAFS and XANES) of lead bromine (PbBr2) solutions in diethylene glycol in the temperature range from room temperature up to about 433 K. The solution is kept in a thermostated container made of carbon-reinforced teflon between two thin chemically inert quartz glass windows with a high transmission for hard X-rays. The construction of the cell ensures that these X-ray windows are thermalized so that any possible precip… Show more

“…Indeed, the monocyte progeny of myeloid cells from patients with X-linked chronic granulomatous disease regained their functionality after retroviral gene transfer of gp91 phox in the myeloid cells, indicating the central role of Nox2 not only for the respiratory burst, but also for lineage commitment and viability of monocytes (86).…”

“…Isosbestic points are commonly observed when studying acid-base or complexation reactions in solution using different spectroscopies ͑see, for instance, Ref. 39, where complexation of Pb 2+ by Br − is studied using XAS͒. There is also evidence for isosbestic points when studying solid-state reactions using XAS: This is exemplified by the reduction of CuO into Cu 0 , which occurs in two consecutive steps ͑CuO to Cu 2 O and Cu 2 O to Cu 0 ͒.…”

“…At low energy we used a 350 mM solution of Cr(NO 3 ) 3 (H 2 O) 9 and 116 mM solution of K 2 Cr 2 O 7 as representative of Cr III and Cr VI samples respectively, while at high energy, 200 mM solutions of Na 2 SeO 3 and Na 2 SeO 4 was chosen for Se IV and Se VI standards. Different thicknesses of the liquid cell chamber have been used to keep the total absorption effect on the spectra under control.…”

“…In the case of a liquid, these two factors lead to severe limitations in terms of the X-ray pathlength. Several technical solutions to measure liquids have been proposed for both hard and soft X-ray beamlines [9][10][11] in order to overcome the different experimental difficulties and constraints.…”
