A New Green Catalyst for Synthesis of bis-Macromonomers of Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)

Abstract: A new method to synthesise polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate (PEGDM) with various molecular weights (1000, 3000, 6000 and 8000 g/mol) of polyethylene glycol (PEG) has been developed. This technique consists in using Maghnite-H+ as eco-catalyst to replace еriethylamine, which is toxic. Maghnite-H+ is a proton exchanged montmorillonite clay which is prepared through a simple exchange process. Synthesis experiments are performed in solution using dichloromethane as solvent in the presence of methacrylic anhydrid… Show more

“…Mag-Na + was prepared according to the protocol described by Derdar et al [ 41 , 42 ]. The raw-Mag supplied by Bental Spa, is crushed and finely sieved, the activation of Maghnite by sodium was carried out using 1 L of NaCl solution (1M) and 20 g of raw-Mag (2% by weight), the latter is mixed for 24 h at room temperature, finally, the Maghnite was washed several times with distilled water.…”
