A novel accurate positioning method of reference hole for complex surface in aircraft assembly

Abstract: In the digital drilling and riveting process of complex surfaces such as aircraft panels, the reference hole is pre-drilled on the skin surface. Generally, four laser displacement sensors (LDSs) are used as a group for normal adjustment. The camera vision is used to determine the position of the reference hole to obtain the accurate positioning of the drilling position. However, while dealing with large curvature complex panel surface and panel edge, four LDSs have the problem of reflection laser disappearance… Show more

“…Significant elements 𝒮 refer to objects that have advantages in size, visual information, and contextual distinguishability with the given scene such as boundaries in PCBs [73], holes of aircraft skins [74], markers on scenarios [75], and designated contours in parts [76]. Determining the feature space means that significant elements are expected to be transformed into a domain independent public space to build correspondence with a given pattern by, for example, encoding elements into 2D, 3D [77], or pose [43] geometric space to perform matching with a given pattern (e.g., pointset, 3D model) [55].…”

“…Non-contact measurement uses a variety of sensors to measure the apertures and the center distance of the hole group without contacting the holes [6][7][8][9][10][11]. The vision 2 of 13 measurement is an important measurement method and is widely used in hole size measurement [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19].…”

“…When drilling the edges of aircraft skin, laser displacement sensors face issues such as the disappearance of reflected laser or matching failures. Zhang [30] and colleagues addressed this problem by proposing a method that combines monocular vision with laser displacement sensors to measure the normal deviation of reference holes. However, compared to the traditional method of measuring normals using four laser displacement sensors, this approach exhibits lower accuracy.…”
