A novel computer navigation model guided unilateral percutaneous vertebroplasty for vertebral compression fracture

Abstract: Rational: Vertebral compression fracture (VCF) is one of the most common diseases in spinal surgery. Traditional percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) under fluoroscopy is an effective method to treat vertebral compression fracture. However, there is still a risk of vascular nerve injury and infection caused by inaccurate or repeated puncture. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to assess the accuracy of unilateral PVP guided by screw view model of navigation (SVMN) for VCF. Patien… Show more

“…Various leading-edge puncture support devices have been developed. Xu HT et al proposed a navigation system that supported correct puncturing in PVP working with the C-arm tracker, patient tracker, and puncture needle tracker adjusting the spinal image information [ 28 ]. Wang B et al proposed a method for guiding punctures in Balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) using a system consisting of a reference tracker, a robotic arm, and a monitor [ 29 ].…”

“…Neumann et al developed a robotic system that can be remotely controlled to inject bone cement, along with a cold passive exchanger that slows cement hardening [ 110 ]. A navigation system in which a C-arm tracker, patient tracker, and puncture-needle tracker coordinate spinal imaging information to assist in accurate punctures in PVP was described by Xu et al [ 111 ]. Wang et al proposed a method to guide the puncture in BKP that uses a system consisting of a reference tracker, robotic arm, and monitor [ 112 ].…”

“…[ 4 ] Conventionally, computed tomography (CT) has been used to guide percutaneous cementoplasty. [ 5 ] However, cancer patients who undergo radiotherapy for primary tumors are concerned about radiation exposure associated with the procedure. Thus, navigation can be a good alternative for CT in guiding percutaneous cementoplasty.…”
