A Novel Immunobiotics Bacteroides dorei Ameliorates Influenza Virus Infection in Mice

Abstract: ObjectiveProbiotics can modulate immune responses to resist influenza infection. This study aims to evaluate the anti-viral efficacy of B. dorei.MethodsC57BL/6J mice were infected with influenza virus together with treatment of PBS vehicle, B. dorei, or oseltamivir respectively. Anti-influenza potency of B. dorei and the underlying mechanism were determined by measuring survival rate, lung viral load and pathology, gene expression and production of cytokines and chemokines, and analysis of gut microbiota.Resul… Show more

“…A. putredinis decreases in both compensated and decompensated liver cirrhosis patients (Shao et al, 2018), and it was discovered to increase with the intakes of cruciferous vegetable in human body (Li et al, 2009). B. dorei has the effect of antiinfluenza by enhancing the expression of earlier interferon, regulating the balance of pro-or anti-inflammatory cytokines, and reconstructing the composition of the gut microbiome (Song et al, 2021). B. dorei can also reduce the production of LPS, and treatment with live B. dorei may help prevent coronary artery disease (Yoshida et al, 2018) and treat obesity (Yoshida et al, 2021).…”

“…55 In animal experiments, mice inoculated with B. dorei are protected from influenza infection. 56 It is also negatively correlated with SARS-CoV-2. 57 In this study, B. dorei was detected in the mouth, which is presumed to be responsible for the mobility of microorganisms in the environment.…”

“…Bacteroides dorei is a kind of intestinal microorganism isolated from human faecal samples 49 , which can inhibit the growth of Clostridium di cile and reduce the production of LPS and atherosclerosis 50 . In animal experiments, mice inoculated with B. dorei are protected from in uenza infection 51 . It is also negatively correlated with SARS-CoV-2 52 .…”

“…The blood on the surface was absorbed with filter paper, and the changes in lung organ index were weighed and recorded using an analytical balance. The formulae used in this study were A = B/C*100%, where A represents the lung organ index, B represents the lung weight (mg), and C represents the body weight (g); and D = (E − F)/G*100%, where D represents the inhibition rate of the lung index (%), E represents the average lung index of the infected group, F represents the average lung index of the administration group, and G represents the average lung index of the infected group (Han et al, 2021;Song et al, 2021;Li-Juan et al, 2022;Wei et al, 2022).…”
