A novel layered supramolecular compound containing 2D network of eight-member water clusters and terephthalato extended-bridged

Abstract: A novel layered supramolecular compound [Ni(L)(TPHA)]Á8H 2 O, containing two-dimensional (2D) water clusters and terephthalato-bridged ligand, where L = 1, 3,6,9,11,14-hexaazatricyclo[12.2.1.1 6,9 ] octadecane, TPHA = terephthalate dianion, has been synthesized and structurally characterized by spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. The complex is neutral, in which the nickel(II) ions are bridged by the TPHA to form a one-dimensional (1D) infinite chain structure, and containing the eight-member water cluste… Show more

“…In all of these, the centrosymmetric bridging ligand is coordinated in rm- syn / syn mode with the mean planes of carboxylate groups rotated relative to the mean benzene plane to a moderate degree from 1.0° to 29.9° . The intermetallic distances d M···M in 1D polymeric chains formed by this bridge fall into the range 11.1 Å to 11.6 Å . It is worth noting that the corresponding parameters for the complexes 7 and 8 (Tables and ) do not drop out from this series except for longer d M···M separation found in the copper complex 8 , which is related to the longer Cu–O coordination bond as compared to the Ni–O one (see Table ).…”

“…59 The intermetallic distances d M•••M in 1D polymeric chains formed by this bridge fall into the range 11.1 Å 60 to 11.6 Å. 61 It is worth noting that the corresponding parameters for the complexes 7 and 8 (Tables 4 and 5) do not drop out from this series except for longer d M•••M separation found in the copper complex 8, which is related to the longer Cu−O coordination bond as compared to the Ni− O one (see Table 4). In general, these distances are only slightly longer than the analogous parameters in CPs formed by isophthalate with the rm-syn/syn mode of coordination (Table S4, Figure S1).…”

“…The next paper by Yang et al [111] reports the synthesis and crystal structure of a new layered complex [Ni(L)(T-PHA)]Á8H 2 O (L = 1,3,6,9,11,14-hexaazatricyclo[12.2.1.1 (6,9)] octadecane; TPHA = terephthalate dianion) which contains a 2-D network of eight-member water clusters which are strongly connected by O-HÁÁÁO hydrogen bonds. As part of a study of the energetics of hydrates [112], the energetics of water clusters of the general formula (H 2 O) n were recently compared to cycloalkanes with the general formula (CH 2 ) n .…”
