A Novel Mono-surface Antisymmetric 8Tx/16Rx Coil Array for Parallel Transmit Cardiac MRI in Pigs at 7T

Abstract: A novel mono-surface antisymmetric 16-element transmit/receive (Tx/Rx) coil array was designed, simulated, constructed, and tested for cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI) in pigs at 7 T. The cardiac array comprised of a mono-surface 16-loops with two central elements arranged antisymmetrically and flanked by seven elements on either side. The array was configured for parallel transmit (pTx) mode to have an eight channel transmit and 16-channel receive (8Tx/16Rx) coil array. Electromagnetic (EM) simulatio… Show more

“…e larger drop in sample noise of the 5ch OD PA coil results in the relative performance increase as conductivity decreases. e CD method can be utilized in PA coil designs with more complex layouts [31][32][33][34][35]. A complex layout requires that at least one tune capacitor be available to tune each coil element.…”

“…To date, MRI in pigs is mainly being used for research purposes-and not for classical performance testing [39][40][41][42][43][44]. A few studies exist, however, where MRI (+DXA) helped to verify or to develop new performance test equations related to fattening of intact boars [45] or to test relationships between male phenotypes and carcass and meat quality [46,47], as was also done by using CT [48].…”

“…The RF coil is crucial for patient safety and optimal image quality. Therefore, it will be interesting to observe in future studies how promising new coil concepts which have been tested successfully in large [53,54] and in other pilot studies [55][56][57][58] will further improve the image quality in clinical imaging. Additionally, the use of automated segmentation methods based on transfer learning might add to the application of CMR at 7T [59,60].…”
