A novel nature inspired 3D open lattice structure for specific energy absorption

Abstract: Energy absorption is a key performance criterion for several engineering structures. Lightweight lattice structures are better suited for this purpose. The convolute design patterns that exist in nature are proven effective for several engineering applications. In this paper, a George lily flower leaf is considered to build a novel 3D open lattice pattern for specific energy absorption (SEA) purposes. A multi-cellular specimen is designed and fabricated using Vat photopolymerization 3D printing process. Quasi-… Show more

“…Te detailed view of NLIIs computer aided design (CAD) infll model is shown in Figure 2(c). Te selection of an optimal number of corners can create a strong network from the core to the outside by using the shape that existed, like in the lemon, by storing the optimal energy in a longer time [32].…”

“…In this context, Doodi and Gunji [74] have designed a novel hybrid bio-inspired lattice structure and fabricated them by vat polymerisation process using the principle of SLA technique. Ashok et al [75] considered a novel three-dimensional open lattice pattern, which was fabricated using vat polymerisation 3D printing technique. Vat Polymerization technique can work with a range of photopolymer materials, including standard resins, engineering-grade resins, and flexible or tough resins.…”
