A novel strategy to promote photo-oxidative and reductive abilities via the construction of a bipolar Bi2WO6/N-SrTiO3 material

Abstract: Focusing on holistically promoting both photo-oxidative and reductive abilities, we constructed a novel Bi 2 WO 6 /N-SrTiO 3 composite, which was expected to have excellent properties for the removal of ions. The matched band structures of Bi 2 WO 6 and N-SrTiO 3 were beneficial for inhibiting the recombination of electron-hole pairs and maintaining the redox capacity through a Z-type n-n heterojunction. Such a bipolar design of photo-oxidative and photo-reductive semiconductor nanomaterials is concluded to be… Show more

“…The crystalline properties of the synthesized Bi 2 Mo 1– x W x O 6 solid solutions are examined by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), and results are given in Figure a. The pristine Bi 2 MoO 6 and Bi 2 WO 6 are well matched with standard diffraction data of orthorhombic Bi 2 MoO 6 (ICDD No: 98-000-5715) and Bi 2 WO 6 (ICDD No: 98-009-5240). , Since the Bi 2 MoO 6 and Bi 2 WO 6 are isostructural (orthorhombic), as compared to Bi 2 MoO 6 , the Bi 2 WO 6 has less intense diffraction peaks, and also the peaks are broad, which indicates the lower crystallite size and the peak corresponding to the (131) plane has a slightly higher 2θ value in the case of Bi 2 WO 6 than Bi 2 MoO 6 . In general, the 2θ value depends on the d-spacing, when the d-spacing decreases the 2θ shifts to a higher angle. , Compared to Bi 2 MoO 6 (3.156 Å (ICDD No: 98-000-5715), the d-spacing of the (131) plane is smaller in Bi 2 WO 6 (3.151 Å (ICDD No: 98-009-5240), hence the (131) plane in Bi 2 WO 6 shows a slightly higher 2θ value than Bi 2 MoO 6 (Figure S2).…”

“…[ 97 ] Gu et al have prepared Bi 2 WO 6 /N‐SrTiO 3 , which completely reduced 5 mg L −1 Cr (VI) under visible light in 90 min. [ 98 ] These modified SrTiO 3 showed excellent photocatalytic degradation of Cr (VI) under visible light. Photocatalysis has been successfully used to treat industry wastewater, performing efficiently via combining with biological treatment, but its application in real wastewater treatment at large scale is still scarce.…”
