A predictive maintenance cost model for CNC SMEs in the era of industry 4.0

Abstract: Within the subject area of maintenance and maintenance management, authors identified a deficiency in studies focussing on the expected value from adopting Predictive Maintenance (PdM) techniques for Machine Tools (MT)s. Authors identified no studies focusing on presenting a PdM value analysis or cost model specifically for Small-Medium Enterprise (SME)s operating Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) MTs. This paper's novelty is addressing SMEs minimal representation in literature by explanatorily collecting … Show more

“…Although it is not reasonable to apply this strategy to every maintenance object in the company, they propose a roadmap for how to find an optimal mix of maintenance strategies and, therefore, to minimize maintenance costs. In addition, Adu-Amankwa et al [23] focused on developing a cost model that assists SME machine shops in evaluating the benefits of adopting PdM techniques, using financial modeling and strategies that build on maximizing values. This was achieved by collecting and analyzing data from SME CNC machine shops in the UK that utilize PdM techniques and measure their impact on the performance cost.…”

“…Requires a systematic process for service innovation by digital technology Implement a culture of failure in the organization Finally, although PdM programs promise significant benefits, Adu-Amankwa et al [23] mapped a summary of the additional responsibilities and challenges of PdM, including unreliable data or a calibration error, special training required and costs for system analysis, maintenance and security of data infrastructure, and significant investments in the acquisition cost.…”

“…A adesão às tecnologias da Indústria 4.0 propicia um avanço na manutenção preditiva, ou seja, faculta monitorar os equipamentos de forma constante de modo a prever falhas de maneira prematura (He et al, 2018;Guizzi et al, 2019;Bengtsson & Lundström, 2018;Romero-Torres et al, 2017;Tedeschi et al, 2018;Adu-Amankwa et al, 2019).…”
