A Profile of Bioactive Compounds of Rumex vesicarius L.

Abstract: The present study was designed to investigate the bioactive compounds in extracts of Rumex vesicarius L. (Polygonaceae), a wild edible herb growing in Egypt. Ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions of leaves of R. vesicarius were conducted by HPLC-PDA-MS/MS-ESI in the negative mode to analyze phenolics content. Results revealed the identification of 13 phenolic compounds: 8-C-glucosyl-apigenin, 8-C-glucosyl-luteolin, 6-C-hexosyl-quercetin, 3-O-rutinosyl-quercetin, 7-O-rhamno-hexosyl-diosmetin, 7-O-rhamno-acetylh… Show more

“…They were characterized on the bases of their product ion spectra, comparisons with reference samples, and literature data. 17 − . The MS 2 product-ion analysis of the parent ion provided a fragmentation pattern of isorhamnetin glucoside, similar to the results previously reported in the literature.…”

“…R. vesicarius is reported to contain phytoconstituents like anthraquinones and flavonoids [3] and phenolic compounds [4]. Out of various phenolic constituents identified and analyzed in R. vesicarius, 6-Cglucosyl-naringenin was found to be the major phenolic compound [4]. It is experimentally proved that naringin can be converted to its various analogues, viz., naringenin 7-O-glucoside, naringenin, naringenin 4´,7-O-diglucoside, naringenin 5,7-Odiglucoside, naringenin 7-O-gentiobioside, naringenin 7-O-rutinoside, and 7-O-gentiobiosyl-4´-O-glucosylnaringenin [5].…”

“…The major hydrocarbons were docosane, nonacosane and dodecane. 44 From the roots of R. acetosa, a polysaccharide was isolated. Structure determination indicated a polymer with molecular weight in the region of 300 000, consisting of D-glucose in high and D-arabinose in low proportion.…”

“…42 Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the hydro-ethanolic extract of R. vesicarius leaves demonstrated the presence of ascorbic acid and α-tocopherol. 44 From the roots of R. patientia, orcinol, a phenolic compound was isolated. 27 Its glucoside was isolated from the roots of R. nepalensis.…”
