The role of e-learning in the existing and challenging educational era is crucial. However, it is necessary to overcome some drawbacks such as feelings of isolation and a lack of emotional contact. In this sense, emotion management is a key driver of student satisfaction in e-learning, which is significantly related to students’ motivation, learning, cognitive strategies, self-regulation, and personality antecedents in the classroom. This article examines an online postgraduate course in financial statements auditing, describing the resources used by the e-tutor to conduct affective tutorials, reduce students’ feelings of isolation, increase student involvement, and achieve success in e-learning. The results of a survey administered to 125 students over the period 2015 to 2020 indicate that students who receive emotional support have higher levels of satisfaction with the course in terms of all satisfaction indicators. In addition, female e-learning students are more satisfied with intensive e-tutor monitoring overall but are less gratified by non-face-to-face e-tools. Our study responds to the calls in the 2021–2027 Digital Education Action Plan to improve and reset education and training for the digital age.

La educación disruptiva se caracteriza por escenarios tales como: el uso intensivo y extensivo de nuevas TIC´s en los procesos de aprendizaje; contenidos y horarios flexibles; aprendizajes personalizados. Para fines de esta investigación, se propone como problemática la ausencia de actividades que permitan a la tutoría virtual mejorar el rendimiento académico en universidades tecnológicas. Durante los 11 años de implementar la tutoría presencial en la Universidad, no se había realizado algún estudio que describiera su comportamiento; por lo tanto, la presente investigación sirve de base para futuras investigaciones relacionadas con la tutoría en el sistema de universidades tecnológicas del país.

Tutor training is an essential component of any university’s tutoring programme, but the role of tutor training is often understudied. Underpinned by a reflective practice theoretical lens, this study investigated the perceptions of tutors regarding the tutor training they receive at the beginning of the semester, with the thesis that tutor training imbues tutors with essential skills. A quantitative approach was assumed, buttressed by a positivist worldview. A sample was drawn from tutors who participated in the tutor training (n=69), whereas a self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. Statistical analysis was conducted through the Independent Samples t-test (One-sample t-test). Results reveal that tutors who participated in the survey felt more confident, personally developed, more empathetic, and skilled in academic areas such as writing and student diversity. Training appears to help them understand the dynamics of teaching and learning and contributes positively to their work as tutors. The main implication of the study is that universities should invest in tutor training.
