A randomised study to compare salivary pH, calcium, phosphate and calculus formation after using anticavity dentifrices containing Recaldent® and functionalized tri‑calcium phosphate

Abstract: Aims:The aim of this study was to estimate the pH of saliva, concentration of calcium and inorganic phosphate, and calculus formation before and after usage of Recaldent® (GC Tooth Mousse Plus™), Functionalized Tricalcium Phosphate (3M ESPE ClinPro™ Tooth Crème) and standard dentifrice (Colgate dental cream).Settings and Design:Randomized double-blind study.Materials and Methods:A total of 50 subjects were recruited, the subjects were assessed at their first visit, on the 21st day and on the 42nd day. “…Phosphate ion re-release following recharge at pH 4.0 was significantly higher compared to pH 5.5 and pH 7.0, whereas ion release was lower and did not differ significantly at pH 5.5 and pH 7.0. This may be due to the presence of higher levels of calcium than phosphate in the composition of Tooth Mousse [ 33 , 34 ]. The greater release of calcium than phosphate ions after recharging in the present study was consistent with previous findings [ 3 , 25 , 26 ].…”

“…Each 5 ml of deionized water was stirred with 1.7 g CPP-ACP in a vortex machine (ZX3 Vortex Mixer, VELP Scientifica, Usmate Velate MB, Italy) at a power setting of 3 for 1 min [ 26 ]. Tooth Mousse contains 10% CPP-ACP with 325 mM calcium and 187 mM phosphate [ 34 , 35 ].…”

“…However, calcium concentration was highest in fennel group than CPP-ACP. RECALDENT™ (CPP-ACP) is a revolutionary ingredient that stabilises and delivers high quantities of calcium and phosphate, which are the essential building blocks for teeth [38]. Santhosh BP et al, observed a significantly increase in the salivary calcium and phosphate concentration after chewing CPP-ACP containing chewing gum [8].…”
