A rare case of carcinoma cuniculatum of the penis in a 55-year-old

Abstract: A rare case of carcinoma cuniculatum of the penis in a 55-year-old AbstractCarcinoma cuniculatum of the penis is an extremely rare variant of squamous cell carcinoma characterized by an endophytic deeply branching and burrowing growth pattern. One documented case series demonstrated afflicted patients ranging in age from 73-83 years with the tumour located on the glans penis, coronal sulcus or foreskin. We report a case of a 55-year-old with disease located on the ventral aspect of the shaft of the penis. The … Show more

“…Rare examples of cutaneous CC have been described in association with long standing neuropathic ulcers secondary to leprosy [13], plantar keratoderma [14] and necrobiosis lipoidica [15]. Etiopathogenetic possibilities that have been discussed by various investigators include smoking, alcohol, reflux and chronic ulcers [2,3,16]. A link to human papillomavirus (HPV) type-11 has also been suggested [17].…”

“…None of the few reported cases disclosed nodal metastasis and all patients are alive. 23,25,26 Warty Warty carcinomas are bulky slow-growing condylomatous tumors that are histologically and cytologically malignant, unlike their benign counterparts, the common and the giant condylomas (Table 8). A moderate differentiation (grade II) and invasion of the corpus spongiosum is the typical presentation, with a low but definite risk for nodal metastasis.…”

“…VC is a rare tumor with uncertain incidence, although it is known that it is more common in men, and in the sixth decade of life (79 -89% of patients) (7,8). VC is usually found on the soles, but it may occur on palms, as well as in other regions (esophagus, oral cavity, larynx, nail, penis) (9,10,11,12,13,14). It is well known that chronic irritation and inflammation have an important role in the pathogenesis of VC, while the role of human papilloma virus (HPV) infection is still controversial (15,16).…”
