Pedagogical competence of university teachers or lecturers has lately gained much attention from researchers; however, no research has specifically examined the pedagogical competence of lecturers with non-education background. Herein, drawing upon Olsson et al. (2010) pedagogical competence development and under the Indonesian legislation of lecturer pedagogical competence, we investigated the efforts made by lecturers with no education background in a large Indonesian university of education to develop their pedagogical competence. As many as 40 lecturers took part in our preliminary survey of lecturer pedagogical development, and 20 of them joined our interviews and focus group discussion. Based on the results of the survey and focus group discussion, we gain a description of the efforts made by the lecturers in developing their pedagogical competence, their perceptions of the extent to which their university has facilitated their pedagogical development, and the perceived challenges. Recommendations are drawn based on the results of the research to create a model of pedagogical content knowledge development that is suitable for the lecturers and other non-education lecturers.

This study aims to analyze professional competence and pedagogic competence students of economic education of Padang State University. This type of research is descriptive research. The population of this research is the economic education of the force of 2016 Faculty Economics of Padang State University. Components of 119 students, this research sample amounted to 55 students. Data are collected by documentation, and test. The results of this study indicate: professional competence and pedagogics students of economic education force 2016 that will carry out the PLK in less category and enough professional competence consists of mastering concept structure material and science mindset that supports the subjects that are infected, developing creative learning materials are created. For pedagogic competence consists of mastering the learning theory and educational principles of education; Developing curriculum related to the field of development is promoted; Mastering the characteristics of learners from physical, moral, social, cultural, emotional, and intellectual aspects; Utilizing the results of the assessment and evaluation for the learning interests. This study aims to evaluate the level of competency of history teachers in Jember. Competency indicators are pedagogical competence, social competence and personality competence based on the perspective of students. This research used quantitative analyzed using inference statistics to analyze differences in teacher competence according to gender and teaching experience. The research sample involved 100 students across five schools. Data analysis used SPSS with multivariate statistical tests. This study indicates a significant difference between teacher pedagogical competence based on gender and teacher social competence based on the level of teaching experience. This study reflects that competency development is still needed to improve teacher competence to improve learning quality.
