BackgroundMedical students are faced with enormous academic demands that may influence their emotional wellbeing. The high rate of depression among medical students and its negative impact is an impetus to find explanation for the factors associated with it. Study skills that students possess might be such a factor. The current tools for the assessment of the study skills may have certain limitations, particularly for different cultural settings.ObjectivesThis study aimed to develop and validate a Study Skills Inventory (SSI), and to investigate the relationship between the students’ study skills and the extent (severity) of depressive symptoms, measured using the validated tool.MethodThe first version of the SSI was developed through expert consensus. The inventory was then administered to a randomly selected group of medical students. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted for the internal validity. External validation was conducted by comparing the results of the SSI with the “Approaches and Study Skills Inventory for Students” (ASSIST). After validation, the correlation between the SSI total score with the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II) total score was investigated using the Pearson correlation coefficient. The means of the total study skills scores for each severity category of depression were compared using ANOVA.ResultsA total of 23 items, representing five sub-scales, were included in the inventory. Based on 372 student responses (response rate of 93%), the five-factor solution explained a cumulative variance of 52% and Cronach alpha was 0.84. The SSI total score had a significant negative association with the BDI-II depression score (Pearson correlation of -.348** and P<0.0001).ConclusionThis study showed evidence for acceptable reliability and validity of the newly developed SSI. Poor study skills were found to correlate with higher depressive symptoms. This association needs confirmation in future research and could open a new door for better understanding of student depression.

This study aims to determine the correlation of the Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) with the value of Student Field Experience Practice (PPL) of FTIK UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi students. This research includes ex post facto correlational research. The population in this study were all participants in the Field Experience Practice (PPL) of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training at UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi in 2021, a total of 538 people. The sample size of the study was 54 people determined by simple random sampling technique. The data in this study are in the form of a Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) with the value of Student Field Experience Practice (PPL) for FTIK UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi students in 2021. Using correlation analysis of the Spearmans Rho test a significant value was obtained between the Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) and the value of Student Field Experience Practice (PPL) is 0.978. The results of the study showed that there was no significant correlation between the Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) and Field Experience Practice Scores (PPL) of FTIK UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi students in 2021.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui korelasi Indeks Prestasi Komulatif (IPK) dengan nilai Praktek Pengalaman Lapangan Mahasiswa (PPL) mahasiswa FTIK UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian korelasional expost facto. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh peserta Praktek Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi tahun 2021 yang berjumlah 538 orang. Ukuran sampel penelitian sebanyak 54 orang ditentukan dengan teknik simple random sampling. Data pada penelitian ini berupa Indeks Prestasi Komulatif (IPK) dengan nilai Praktek Pengalaman Lapangan Mahasiswa (PPL) mahasiswa FTIK UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi tahun 2021. Dengan menggunakan analisis korelasi Uji Spearmans Rho diperoleh nilai signifikan antara Indeks Prestasi Komulatif (IPK) dengan nilai Praktek Pengalaman Lapangan Mahasiswa (PPL) yaitu 0.978. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada korelasi yang signifikan antara Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif (IPK) dan Nilai Praktek Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) mahasiswa FTIK UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi tahun 2021.

The era of the industrial revolution 4.0 requires working effectively and efficiently, all the activities is quick and easy. Skills use of technology is one of learning skills that must be mastered to achieve success in life in the era of industrial revolution 4.0, especially in the academic field for students undertaking study or the study completion. Skills good use of technology will make the students quickly and easily complete the study. This study aims to analyze the importance of skills enhancement technology use in higher education in order to meet the industrial revolution 4.0. The research sample student counseling. Research data analysis using percentage. The research found that the importance of improving the skills of the use of technology in higher education and in general skills of student technology use is not optimal.
