“…However, a few samples without precipitating antibodies had rather high IgG values, and some samples with precipitating antibodies had low IgG values. Similar observations have been reported (11,12,(27)(28)(29) and may be partly explained by differences in assay detection limit and quality and composition of the antigen extract. Indeed, pigeon serum antigen was used in the precipitation assay, whereas the antigen coupled to the ImmunoCAP contained proteins from serum, feathers, and droppings.…”

“…The results of previous studies showed that the IgG antibody response, perhaps involving different subclasses, is a very good marker for AA. It has been demonstrated that serum, droppings and feathers of birds contain antigens such as bird IgA immunoglobulins and mucin [10, 18, 19]. Taken the different antigen responses to the various antigen sources into account, it seems reasonable to use antigen mixes for the determination of raised IgG antibody levels.…”

“…IgG antibodies directed against numerous bird products, such as serum, droppings and feathers, may play an important role in AA [10]. Owing to the difficulties in obtaining antigenic extracts of these materials, studies aimed at quantifying antibodies to different antigenic sources are very limited.…”

“…The clinical manifestations, functional respiratory tests, imaging studies, and histopathological findings are consistent with a predominant interstitial lung involvement (2,3). A diversity of immunological abnormalities may also distinguish the disease, and they have been useful to define the diagnosis and/or approach its pathogenesis (1)(2)(3)(4).…”

“…Pigeon fancier's disease has been recognized as one of the most common HP subsets, and is caused by the inhalation of organic dusts derived mainly from feathers and/or avian droppings (1). The clinical manifestations, functional respiratory tests, imaging studies, and histopathological findings are consistent with a predominant interstitial lung involvement (2,3).…”
