A Review of Blockchain Technology Applications in Ambient Assisted Living

Abstract: The adoption of remote assisted care was accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This type of system acquires data from various sensors, runs analytics to understand people’s activities, behavior, and living problems, and disseminates information with healthcare stakeholders to support timely follow-up and intervention. Blockchain technology may offer good technical solutions for tackling Internet of Things monitoring, data management, interventions, and privacy concerns in ambient assisted living applications. … Show more

“…As a decentralized ledger technology, blockchain can be an ideal solution for multicenter cooperation-based trust [11,12]. Nowadays, it has been widely applied in insurance [13,14], DRM [15,16], and IoT [17,18], not just focusing on cryptocurrencies. For blockchain, it is well known that blocks are linked by hash chain and immutability is one of its characteristics.…”

“…Thus, by integrating the IoT with BC, more trusted, accurate, and transparent transactions can be made (R. . Nevertheless, since the BC technology is still relatively new, most of the prior literature was conceptual or review of the usage of BC (Ali Syed et al, 2019;Alkhateeb et al, 2022;Dedeoglu et al, 2020;Florea et al, 2022;Mahlous & Ara, 2020;Pennino et al, 2022). This research contributes to the field by investigating the moderating effect of BC technology in preventing security and privacy breaches.…”

“…Many approaches are utilized to ensure the privacy of data transmitted through sensor devices within the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) [ 5 ]. Some of the approaches include public key-based data encryption [ 6 ], blockchain technology [ 7 , 8 ], Deep Learning for encryption [ 9 ], and the data aggregation mechanism [ 10 ]. As a crucial data processing method, data aggregation may minimize energy and bandwidth usage while gaining correct information by integrating message authentication codes with each data packet rather than sending an auxiliary packet with checksum and error detection codes [ 11 ].…”
