The study at hand aims at identifying the argumentative writing skills among Arabic language teachers in online environments. The need for acceptance and the readiness of teachers to work independently in a digital environment is now especially great since students are familiar with electronic technology. Peculiarities of teaching the Arabic language require increased attention to learning writing and confident knowledge from teachers. Argumentative writing is important for teachers precisely in terms of its use to motivate students in e-learning and increase their engagement. Research paper points to the relationship between teachers’ writing skills and students’ advancement in writing when learning Arabic, especially as a foreign language. To achieve the purpose of the study, the descriptive method was applied. The sample of the study consisted of 120 teachers of UAE primary schools (40 male and 80 female), who were chosen randomly. The instrument of the study is a questionnaire divided into seven areas of argumentative writing. The study evaluates writing skills closely related to the effectiveness of presenting information to an online audience and in preparing e-learning programs. The results show that the argumentative writing skills in Arabic language teachers are moderate. There are statistically significant differences on the argumentative writing skills attributed to the gender variable in favor of the females. There are no statistically significant differences among the sample participants ascribed to qualification variable. Finally, there are statistically significant differences on argumentative writing skills ascribed to the experience variable, in favor of 10 years of experience or more. The authors also offered recommendations for the application of research results and for further research in this area.

Documentary film is a language input which is based on writing skills since it consists of the introduction to subject, presentation of ideas, and conclusion of subject. Many studies have highlighted the linguistic, informational, and pedagogical purposes of documentary film in language classrooms as the processing of written texts is required before the production of a documentary film. Although documentary film has a strong relationship with writing skills and having access to these authentic materials are very easy, some educators ignore these authentic inputs. Thus this paper investigates the importance of using documentary film in enhancing the learning of Arabic as a second language with specific focus on writing skills. In addition, this paper examines local experts’ views on the utilization of documentary film in the Arabic as a second language classroom. A set of questionnaire with both open and closed-ended questions were distributed among twelve experts in the field of Arabic as a second language in Malaysian public universities. Feedbacks from the experts were collected and analyzed. The findings indicated strong recommendations from Arabic language experts in Malaysia. Among the recommendations are the types of documentary films to be utilized, the categories of writing skills that can be developed, and the appropriate instructional techniques to be used in the classroom. In general, this study hopes to contribute to the field of Arabic teaching language skills to non-native speakers and a useful reference for curriculum designers, ministry officials, textbook authors, and teachers.

The Effect of Active Learning on Developing the EFL Speaking Skills of the Saudi Kindergarten Students in Saudi Arabia

This study aimed at investigating the impact of using a program based on active learning strategies on developing the EFL speaking skills among the Saudi kindergarten students in Saudi Arabia. The participants enrolled in the second level of kindergarten (KG2). The researcher hypothesized that if the students were given the communication opportunities and speaking in a classroom-based on active learning strategies, so their English speaking skills may be improved. In the same respect, the present study attempted to answer the following hypothesized question: Is there a statistically significant difference between the Saudi kindergarten students' mean scores on the English speaking skills test due to the teaching procedures of active learning strategies, or not? To answer the aforementioned question, the researcher designed a rubric for assessing the participants' speaking skills before and after implementing the program based on active learning strategies in speaking classes. A pre-post speaking skills' test, comprehended the dimensions of accuracy and fluency of English speaking skills in classes, was designed by the researcher and refereed by a jury of specialists in the field of education from different countries. The sample entailed 150 students from one of Al-Riyadh Kindergartens. Validity and reliability of the research instruments were validated. Results were calculated and discussed. Finally, recommendations and suggestions for further research were introduced.
