A Review of Manufacturing Resources Planning Models Under Different Uncertainties: State-of-the-Art and Future Directions

Abstract: The main purposes of this paper are to enhance the understanding of manufacturing resources planning models under uncertain conditions by documenting the current state of affairs, and to stimulate a fruitful future research direction by identifying gaps between the relevant issues and the literature available in reputable journals. This paper is a comprehensive and up-to-date review of the existing literature on manufacturing resource planning models under uncertainty. The authors have found that the combined … Show more

“…In the area of production decision-making, a great number of papers have been published and there are also comprehensive survey papers (Dolgui and Prodhon 2007;Wang et al 2009;Wazed, Ahmed, and Nukman 2010), which involve a large number of research areas, including aggregate planning (Sakalli, Baykoc, and Birgoren 2010;Fahimnia, Farahani, and Sarkis 2013), shop scheduling (Engin, Ceran, and Yilmaz 2011;Jolai, Rabiee, and Asefi 2012) and assembly line balancing (Hu et al 2010;Guo et al 2012), etc. However, little attention has been paid on the production decisionmaking problems in the manufacturing environment with the consideration of multiple production plants located in different regions.…”

“…In addition, the recent literature contains several success stories about commonality applications (e.g., [9,[12][13][14]16,21,22]). For more extensive reviews on component commonality, we refer to the recent surveys [23][24][25][26][27].…”

“…The literature reports different approaches to consider uncertainty in MRP systems, such as simulation [11], [12], stochastic inventory control [13], fuzzy logic [14], fuzzy mathematical programming [15][16][17][18], fuzzy programming with resources based on the credibility theory [19] and MRP parameterization [20][21][22], among others. Other approaches to consider uncertainty in MRP systems can be found in several reviews [23][24][25].…”
