A Review of the Pharmacological Potential of Spatholobus suberectus Dunn on Cancer

Abstract: Spatholobus suberectus Dunn (SSD) has been extensively employed in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat several ailments. SSD and its active compounds are effective therapeutic agents for treating a variety of diseases with negligible side effects. Therefore, we aimed to investigate its phytochemistry, pharmacology, and potential therapeutic effects exclusively in cancer prevention and treatment. Phytochemical and pharmacological information was collected and arranged in a rational order. SSD has been frequen… Show more

“…8 In this landscape, Qingre Huoxue Decoction (QHD), a traditional Chinese herbal formulation, has shown promise in alleviating psoriasis in previous studies. 6 Comprising Sophora japonica (Huaihua), 9 Angelica sinensis (Danggui), 10 Sparganium stoloniferum (Sanleng), 11 Curcuma zedoaria (Ezhu), 12 and Spatholobus suberectus Dunn (Jixu eteng), 13 QHD contains pharmacologically active ingredients like Rytub, ferulic acid, isocurcumenol, hexadecanoic acid, and formononetin. 14 This study aims to explore QHD's effects on wound healing within the psoriatic context, a significant yet underresearched area due to the complex interplay between angiogenesis, inflammation, and tissue repair in psoriatic lesions.…”

“…It has various pharmaceutical effects and long been used in China since the 17th century [ 1 , 2 ]. It is usually utilized for treating gynecological (menoxenia, amenorrhea, and dysmenorrhea) and cardiovascular diseases, later more pharmacological activities (anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, anti-diabetic, and neuroprotective) were discovered [ 3 ].…”

“…In addition to the recent findings presented above from original studies, in this Special Issue, there are six review articles summarizing the most recent literature on: (1) the molecular targets and mechanisms of action of salicylic acid in plants and humans [ 13 ]; (2) the multitarget potential of berberine while antineoplastic for antimetastatic agents in lung cancer [ 14 ]; (3) the anticancer potential of Spatholobus suberectus Dunn. [ 15 ]; (4) the anticancer potential of natural products in solid tumors [ 16 ]; (5) the anticancer potential of phytochemicals and their mechanisms of action [ 17 ]; and (6) the preventive and therapeutic potential of anthocyanidins/anthocyanins (ACDs/ACNs) in prostate cancer [ 18 ].…”

“…In the third review, the authors underlined that S. suberectus was composed of a rich variety of phytochemicals, including flavonoids, chalcone, dihydroflavone, pterocarpan, and phenolic acid to whom both in vitro and in vivo experiments underlined their anticancer effects. This plant exerts anticancer effects mainly through the modulation of PI3K/Akt/mTOR and Ras/Raf/MAPK pathways, which are, however, necessary to perform clinical studies and solidly conclude their therapeutic potential in humans [ 15 ].…”
