A Review on Metabolites from Onchidium Genus: Chemistry and Bioactivity

Abstract: The Onchidium genus (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Pulmonata, Systellommatophora, Onchidiidae family) is used as the important economical shellfish, due to the high nutritional value and medicinal value. Research over the previous decades indicated that Onchidium sp. mainly contains polypropionates, depsipeptides, terpenoids and other chemical components. Many biological activities of Onchidium (e. g., cytotoxic activities against tumor cells, anti‐viral and anti‐bacterial activities) have been reported. This review r… Show more

“…The results of this study are in line with previous studies that The Onchidium genus (Mollusca, Gastropod, Pulmonata, Systellommatophora, Onchidiidae family) is reported to have 60 active compounds including polypropionates, depsipeptides, terpenoids and other chemical components. Many biological activities of Onchidium such as anticancer, anti-viral and anti-bacterial and anti-fungi activities have been reported (Fernández et al, 1996;Fontana et al, 2000;Wang et al, 2021;Wijianto et al, 2022;Zhou et al, 2018). The same slug of O. typhae has been reported to contain alkaloid using tube tests (Wijianto et al, 2022).…”

“…In addition, it was also known that the extracts of methanol, ethyl acetate, and chloroform had antifungal activity against C. albicans. Alkaloids, steroids, and flavonoids are thought to be responsible for antibacterial and antifungal activity (Wang et al, 2021;Wijianto et al, 2022;Zhou et al, 2018).…”

“…619 The NP chemistry of shell-less molluscs of the genus Onchidium, covering 1978 to 2020, has been reviewed. 620 The muricid gastropod Chicoreus ramosus was the source of benzochromenone 1452, 621 while cuttlesh Sepia pharaonis afforded spiropharanone 1453, 622 the octopus Cistopus indicus yielded the unusual bislactones cistobislactones A 1454 and B 1455, 623 and terpenoids 1456-1458 were isolated from the squid Uroteuthis duvaucelli. 624 Two new saxitoxin analogues, M5hemiaminal 1459 and M6-hemiaminal 1460, were isolated as likely metabolites of paralytic shellsh toxins from the scallop Patinopecten yessoensis.…”

“…Onchidiid slugs, which are shell-less, are commonly found in the waters of West Kalimantan. The scientific name of The onchidiid slug species is Onchidium typhae Figure 1, which thrives in brackish waters (Wang et al, 2021;Wijianto et al, 2022aWijianto et al, , 2022b.…”
