A revisão do Código Florestal Brasileiro: impactos negativos para a conservação dos anfíbios

Abstract: Abstract:In the last months there is a growing discussion in Brazil about a new Brazilian Forest Act (Código Florestal). This new proposal, in substitution to the current Act, includes modifications which will affect negatively natural populations of amphibians. Besides the deleterious impacts upon amphibians, it will also harm the national and international human populations. Among the possible effects, in consequence of the associate amphibian population declines or complete loss, we cite the increase of ag… Show more

“…In the literature, there is a great deal of discussion with respect to the recent changes in the Brazilian Forest Code (AB 'SÁBER, 2010;BRANCALION;RODRIGUES, 2010;CASATTI, 2010;DEVELEY;PONGILUPPI, 2010;TOLEDO et al, 2010;TUNDISI;MATSUMURA-TUNDISI, 2010), in which a false dichotomy is apparent between the conservation of native vegetation and farming, which according to Martinelli et al (2010), affects various ecological communities. With respect to the ligneous vegetation in PPAs, there are few studies discussing the possible alterations resulting from the changes in legislation (PINHEIRO et al, 2015).…”

“…Environmental damage, both in the loss of natural resources and of fauna and flora, will be devastating. A major assessment of the damage this law will cause Brazilian biodiversity was done by a large group of researchers [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17].…”

“…If adopted, it will enhance degradation of native forests, causing serious impacts on amphibian populations due to habitat loss, endogamy, disease incidence, mortality of eggs and larvae, etc (Toledo et al 2010). In addition, the great number of species associated with small streams (permanent or temporary) will be particularly affected, because this law project reduces the legal areas permanently preserved around streams (Toledo et al 2010). Physalaemus maximus is not recognized as a threatened anuran (IUCN 2011).…”
