A search for pair-produced resonances in four-jet final states at $$\sqrt{s}=13$$ s = 13 $$\text {TeV}$$ TeV with the ATLAS detector

Abstract: A search for massive coloured resonances which are pair-produced and decay into two jets is presented. The analysis uses 36.7 fb −1 of √ s = 13 TeV pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2015 and 2016. No significant deviation from the background prediction is observed. Results are interpreted in a SUSY simplified model where the lightest supersymmetric particle is the top squark,t, which decays promptly into two quarks through Rparity-violating couplings. Top squarks with masses in … Show more

“…Experimental limits on scalar octet pair production via the gluonic interactions in the kinetic term can be inferred by recasting searches of sgluons. A recent search of sgluon pair production by ATLAS using 36.7 fb −1 of √ s = 13 TeV data [32], whose prediction was obtained from the NLO computation in Ref. [34] for √ s = 8 TeV (rescaled to 13 TeV according to Ref.…”

“…In the scenarios under consideration, pseudoscalar sgluons almost exclusively couple to top quarks, so that all existing sgluon bounds are automatically evaded. The latter are indeed derived from resonance searches in topantitop [51,52] or dijet [53][54][55] final states, from the shape of the tt differential cross section [56][57][58][59] or from dijet pair production [60,61], which all require a nonvanishing sgluon coupling either to light quarks or to gluons or to both. The only potential constraints hence arise from searches for new physics in the four-top final state.…”

“…Expected CMS exclusions are also displayed (green dashed contours). The dashed gray contours show the bounds on direct pair production of Φ u,d followed by decay to top plus jet [91], while the shaded gray regions show the bounds on pair production of Φ u,d followed by decay to bottom plus jet [92].…”
