“…Herbs have complex chemical systems involving various hydrophobic, hydrophilic, and amphiphilic molecules that feature a wide variety of acid-base properties, polarity, molecular mass, and content [( Luo et al, 2020 ), ( Wang et al, 2020 )], making it difficult to analyze their composition [( Feng et al, 2021 ), ( Ji et al, 2018 )]. In most previous studies, the systematic and comprehensive analysis of herb composition through liquid chromatography mass spectrometry had limited success due to limitations such as low precision and high detection limits [( Liu et al, 2020a )]. Fortunately, the ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS) platform is a powerful tool for the comprehensive identification and analysis of ingredients in herbs due to its higher mass resolution, higher mass accuracy, wider dynamic range, and better sensitivity ( Liu et al, 2020b ; Xian et al, 2020 ; Yuan et al, 2020 ; Jia et al, 2021 ).…”
