A simple dual‐band frequency selective surface

Abstract: Design and experimental investigations are presented for a dual‐band frequency selective surface (FSS) with perfectly conducting rectangular patch elements. The work was developed in two steps. In the first step, two single‐band FSS screens were designed to obtain resonant frequencies at 9.5 GHz and 10.5 GHz, each one with about 1.5 GHz bandwidth. In the second step, these single FSS screens were cascaded and separated by an air gap layer to achieve a dual‐band response. The proposed dual‐band FSS screen is ea… Show more

“…The upper and lower single FSS patches have as dimensions 7 mm  10 mm and 8 mm  8 mm, respectively. The WCIP and the literature [11] simulated and measured transmission coefficients of the two-level rectangular conducting patches FSS are plotted in Figure 10 for comparison purpose. A good agreement is observed.…”

“…Many authors have investigated different types of periodic structures to analyze their properties and performance, such as, reconfigurable FSSs [3], multilayer selective filters [4], periodic arrays printed on anisotropic dielectric substrates [5], and FSSs that use fractal geometry in their design [6–12].…”

“…This paper shows that an improved bandwidth response (rejection band), for a 20 dB insertion loss reference, can be obtained by cascading two FSS screens with Koch fractal elements, here called double screen FSS (DSFSS). DSFSSs composed of identical or staggered tuned arrays have been studied in previous works [3,[6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. In the generation of the proposed fractal Koch element, we begin with a rectangular conducting patch with dimensions W and L, in x and y directions, respectively.…”
