A software tool for coordination of controllers in power systems

Abstract: This paper repom the theoretical background and the methodology of development of a software tool for off-line coordination of power system conmollen in either a high-fiwIuency range (5-55 Hz) or a low-frequency range (0.1-2.0 Hz). The controllers considered for coodination are: voltage regulators, power system stabiirs (PSSs). speed governors, main and auxiliary controllers of HVDC converters, and main and auxiliary controllers of static VAr compensators (SVCs). The software package calculates the eigenvalues… Show more

“…The conclusion that | GEP(s) | decreases as the ac system becomes weaker is based only on the influence of K 2 in (6). When both K 2 and ω" are counted, the correct conclusion should be that the effect of a PSS on system damping changes very little when the ac system strength changes, because the change in K 2 will be offset by the change in ω η in (6).…”

“…2,1992 Another approach is to analyze the regulator's effect using sensi tivity methods. Usually the sensitivity of swing modes with respect to the regulator's parameters is computed by the method described in [5], and is used to study and coordinate regulators in multimachine power systems [6]. A new sensitivity concept, the sensitivity-ofregulator's effect, which measures the sensitivity of a mode with respect to the change of a regulator transfer function, was proposed in [7].…”

“…A new methodology has been proposed for decentralized optimal power flow control for overlapping area in power systems for the enhancement of the system security [126]. Iravani et al have been presented a theoretical back ground and the methodology of development of a software tool for off-line coordination of power system controllers in either a high frequency range (5-55Hz) or a low frequency range (0.1-2Hz) [127]. The controllers considered for coordination are voltage regulators, PSS, speed governors, main and auxiliary controllers of HVDC converters, and main and auxiliary controllers of SVC.…”

“…In addition, this method requires inefficient rotation all machine models in the local dq reference frame to the common R-I reference frame. References [7], [8] take advantage of time-domain simulation program to construct state-space equations by numerical differentiation. It depends on the time-domain simulation program.…”
