“…Instead broad anomalies with greatly reduced peak heights at temperatures close to T C are observed. Thus, while the anomaly in the heat capacity data does have a magnetic origin, it does not reflect a long-range magnetic ordering in these compounds [10,13,14]. These features may be taken to imply an inhomogeneous type of magnetic ordering in which the entropy due to the magnetic ordering is spread considerably above T C : Indeed the calculated entropy does not attain the value R ln 2 (5.76 J/mol K) in Pr and Nd compounds up to T C (assuming a crystal electric field split doublet ground state with effective spin S=1/2).…”

“…The competing and coexisting of different interactions lies in the center of condensed matter physics, which can leads to a wide range of novel quantum properties, such as unconventional superconductivity, non-Fermi liquid behavior, quantum criticality, Kondo semiconductor/insulator etc. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. Especially, for the materials containing rear-earth or actinides elements, the strongly correlated f electrons play an important role and most of them exhibit heavy fermion behaviors.…”

“…All these structure types are derived from the CaCu 5 (RX 5 ) parent type by multiple substitutions of parts of the large atoms (R) by pairs of small atoms (X-X). Previous investigations of the magnetic properties of GdMn 4 Al 8 and GdMn 6 Al 6 [10,11], and in particular specific heat studies of RMn 4 Al 8 with R = Nd, Dy, Er [12], clearly indicated that long-range magnetic order occurs in the R sublattice, while the Mn sublattice exhibits no ordered moment. This is in line with Pauli paramagnetic behavior, reported for LaMn 4 Al 8 and YMn 4 Al 8 [12].…”
