“…The rigid-body model underestimates both the entry velocity and the volume sliding into the water body, which leads to a smaller run-up height on the opposite bank and little backflow. The maximum run-up height in Shi et al (2015) was approximately 21.4 m, while this study determined it to be 48 m, which is closer to the field observation (Y. Liu et al, 2015).…”

“…Shi et al. (2015) simulated the Huangtian LGIW using a fluid‒rigid‐body SPH coupling model. Such fluid‒rigid‐body coupling models usually require assumptions of landslide volume, slip surface, and sliding velocity in advance.…”

“…The Wab is kernel function act as weighting function, and the Пab is artificial viscosity term representing fluid viscosity. Detailed information of SPH method and its application on LIIW problem could be found in Shi et al's papers [3,4] .…”

“…1. [3] had simulated the generation process of this LIIW event with SPH method. The length of the calculation area is about 14 times of water depth, and the wave hydrograph at the 2 times of water depth away from the rim of landslide is recorded.…”

“…No fixed connection between particles or meshes exists, avoiding the inaccuracy from the distorted mesh when dealing with a large deformation and post failure movement of the landslides ( Huang et al, 2009 ). The SPH method has already been used for simulating waves generated by landslides by simplifying the landslide in to a rigid body ( Shi et al, 2015 ;Vacondio et al, 2013 ) or a nonNewtonian fluid model ( Ataie-Ashtiani and Shobeyri, 2008 ;Capone et al, 2010 ). Because of its Lagrangian and mesh free characteristics, the SPH method avoids the issue of the simplified treatment of materials' interface in the Euler mesh.…”
