A statistical approach linking energy management to maintenance and production factors

Abstract: This research has addressed a quantitative approach for improving energy management through applying statistical techniques aimed at identifying and controlling factors linked to energy consumption rates at manufacturing plants. The paper presents analysis and results of multiple linear regression models used to establish the significance of a number of energy related management factors in controlling energy usage. Regression models constructed for this purpose proved the existence of statistically valid relat… Show more

“…Al-Ghanim [43] studies the relationship between energy consumption rates and maintenance and production factors, for which they develop regression models. Some of the arguments for their study are the facts that repetitive failures lead to increase energy by machines, as warming and re-startup are energy intensive processes.…”

“…Effective maintenance management systems can lead to energy savings and substantial reduction in environmental pollution (Al-Ghanim, 2003). As a machine degrades, its performance deteriorates and the associated energy consumption increases.…”

“…This literature is mainly from the maintenance-engineering field. The support for the measurement and analysis of maintenance profitability came from a number of sources (Al-Ghanim, 2003;Komonen, 2002;Liyanage and Kumar, 2003;Mjema and Mweta, 2003). In the first instance, Al-Ghanim (2003) proposed a linkage of energy management to maintenance systems.…”
