The activated bamboo charcoal as an alternative to improve the hardness and increase rubber volume that leads to better rubber sheet quality. The study aims to determine the characteristics of rubber sheet with raw latex composite materials and activated bamboo charcoal. The amount of activated bamboo charcoal in rubber sheet formulation was varied in different mass, which was 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 grams. Each treatment was replicated three times. The parameters were ash content, initial plasticity (Po), Plasticity Resistance Index (PRI) and Mooney viscosity. The results showed that the variations of treatment in the amount of activated bamboo charcoal affected ash content, initial plasticity (Po), Plasticity Resistance Index (PRI) and Mooney viscosity. The characteristics of rubber sheet met the quality of Standard Indonesian Rubber (SIR) requirements according to SNI 06-1903SNI 06- -2000 with ash content characteristics for all treatments, Po and PRI, the treatments of F3 (raw latex of 945 g and activated bamboo charcoal of 35 g) to F6 (raw latex of 945 g and activated bamboo charcoal of 50 g). The mooney viscosity of rubber sheet for all treatments met the quality standard of commercial SIR, minimum 40.

Effect of modified keratin from renewable sources on composites properties of synthetic isoprene rubber

The present conducted research focused on elastomeric materials containing reinforcing modified keratin fibers in their composition. The applied keratin was modified by solvolysis reaction to obtain the product in the form of a hydrolysate. Then, the hydrolysate was modified by the addition reaction of keratin adduct with a plasticizer—technical stearin is commonly used in processing elastomers. The keratin hydrolysate adducts were used in a different weight proportion in the composites in which the carrier was isoprene rubber (IR; Cariflex 305). The obtained composites (rubber Cariflex composites (RC)) were subjected to a series of tests aimed at understanding the structure and interactions between biopolymers and other components of elastomeric mixtures. Mechanical properties, including hardness, the cross-linking density, and thermo-oxidative aging were investigated. Microbiological tests were carried out, which in turn allowed to determine the effect of introduced keratin in a modified hybrid form, to the elastomeric matrix. The test results indicate a significant improvement of some properties, especially when using 10 parts by weight of keratin adducts introduced into 100 parts by weight of IR rubber.

Most of Indonesian rubber products SIR ABSTRAKProduk karet SIR 20 Indonesia sebagian besar diproduksi dengan menggunakan bahan olah karet petani. Mutu bahan olah karet ini masih belum baik. Peningkatan mutu harus dilakukan di tingkat pabrik. Penggunaan asap cair pada proses penggantung blanket dapat meningkatkan mutu produk karet SIR 20. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan mempelajari pengaruh penyemprotan asap cair dan waktu penggantungan blanket terhadap faktor pengeringan, kadar karet kering, mutu teknis, karakteristik vulkanisasi dan sifat fisik vulkanisat karet alam. Perlakuan yang diberikan terdiri atas waktu penggantungan (6, 8, 10 hari, dan tanpa penggantungan) dan penyemprotan (dengan penyemprotan asap cair dan tanpa penyemprotan). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi penyemprotan asap cair pada blanket karet alam dapat meningkatkan mutu teknis karet alam terutama nilai Po dan PRI. Dengan penyemprotan asap cair, lama penggantungan blanket dapat dipercepat menjadi 6-8 hari. Blanket yang disemprot asap cair mempunyai waktu matang optimum sekitar 15 menit 19 detik dan waktu terjadinya pravulkanisasi sekitar 3 menit 22 detik. Nilai ini secara umum menunjukkan karakteristik vulkanisasi blanket disemprot asap cair lebih baik dibandingkan blanket tanpa penyemprotan.Kata kunci: asap cair, karet alam, mutu blanket, penggantungan. PENDAHULUANIndonesia merupakan negara penghasil karet alam terbesar kedua di dunia setelah Thailand.
