A Study of Ray-Chaotic Cylindrical Scatterers

Abstract: Ray chaos, manifested by the exponential divergence of trajectories originating from an originally thin ray bundle, can occur even in linear electromagnetic propagation environments, due to the inherent nonlinearity of ray-tracing (eikonal) maps. In this paper, extending our previous study of a two-dimensional planar ray-chaotic prototype scenario, we consider a cylindrical scatterer made of a perfectly electric-conducting azimuthally corrugated boundary coated by a radially inhomogeneous (ray-trapping) dielec… Show more

“…(19) reproduces the well-known J 0 -type FD form [37] in the time-harmonic limit. As shown in Appendix B, the above heuristic-based result is consistent with first-principle calculations [i.e., with (16) and (10)]. In particular, as also shown in Appendix B, we can relate the multiplicative constant Ξ in (19) to the critical parameters in the SP-RWP model, viz.,…”

“…two dimensional electron gases in quantum dots or more complicated systems [5,6,7,8]. Recently billiard systems with large openings have attracted attention [9,10,11,12,13,14]. In [15] properties of the classical dynamics of open mushroom billiards were investigated.…”
