A study of surface breaking crack evaluating by using Scanning Laser Source-Dual Laser Source technique

Abstract: A hybrid non-destructive surface breaking crack evaluation technique, combining a Scanning Laser Source (SLS) technique and Dual Laser Source technique is presented and studied by FEM method and experimentation. By using this technique, surface breaking crack information, such as location, depth and orientation can be measured in one measurement cycle. First, the SLS technique is employed to locate the crack, by detecting the characteristic changes in the amplitude content. Then the Dual Laser Source technique… Show more

“…The material parameters of the sample are provided by the manufacturer, including Young’s modulus of about 71 GPa , Poisson’s ratio of about 0 . 25 , and density of about 2810 kg / m 3 . In addition, the velocity of skimming longitudinal wave and surface acoustic wave in this sample can be fitted by the scanning laser source method, 29,38 which are c L 6169 m / s and c SAW 2906 m / s , respectively. The shear wave velocity can be calculated by substituting c L and c SAW into the Rayleigh wave velocity equation, 39 which is c T 3119 m / s .…”
